Field
Nestled at the foot of Mount Stephen, on the banks of the Kicking Horse River, inYoho National Park, the town of Field enjoys one of the most picturesque setting imaginable.
Established in 1885 during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Field is the east/west division point for the railway. The village is home to 300 inhabitants, including many artisans.
Field is a scenic 2 1/2 hour drive from Calgary, Alberta, through the Rocky Mountians via the Trans Canada Highway and Banff National Park. It's natural setting makes it the perfect base for four season outdoor adventures.
The Kicking Horse River is a Canadian Heritage River and is popular with kayakers and rafters. The wilderness offers back country hiking, canoeing, fishing and camping. The area is home to 6 national parks, filled with breathtaking scenery: waterfalls, cliffs, glaciers, rivers, lakes and wildlife. Don't forget your camera!
Winter ski enthusiasts enjoy the deep snow. The neighbouring world-class ski resorts of Lake Louise, to the east, and Kicking Horse Mountian at Golden, to the west offer unsurpassed winter fun. But the winter fun doesn't stop there. Yoho National Park offers a vast network of cross country ski trails, and visitors can enjoy snow shoeing, dog sledding and snowmobiling. Field is also a popular international destination for some of the best ice climbers in the world.
