Pass & Glacier National Park
The Roger's Pass is a spectacular stretch of the Trans Canada Highway #1 that passed through the mountainous pass between the communities of Revelstoke and Golden. On it's way it passes through Glacier National Park At the time of construction it was considered an engineering marvel and the pride of the province. Today it is part of the main transportation corridor between BC and Alberta and visited each year by sightseers destined for the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Glacier National Park: Entrances to Glacier National Park are located 57.6 km (36 miles) west of Golden and 45 km (28 miles) east of Revelstoke by way of the Trans Canada Highway. The rugged mountains of the surrounding area are made up primarily of hard metamorphic and igneous rock. There are over 400 glaciers found in Glacier National Park as a result of abundant snowfall. Glacial movement has formed numerous cirques, arretes, tarns and hanging valleys. The Nakimu Cave system, which is the third longest in Canada, is located in the park and may be accessed by applying with the park superintendent.
Hiking & Trails: An extensive trail system leads the visitor to the Illecillewaet and Asulkan Glaciers, scenic viewpoints from the Mt. Tupper and Rogers group of peaks and natural attractions such as the Cougar Valley.
Access: Located 80 km from Revelstoke, 80 km from Golden, 168 km from Salmon Arm, 170 km from Lake Louise, 215 km from Vernon and 215 km from Banff.
